Strengthening the Fertilizer Industry Together: Our Mission, Our Members, Our Momentum
Why the Fertilizer Industry Needs a Strong Voice
TFI members really depend upon the association to ensure they maintain their license to operate, whether it’s a water quality issue that might get blamed on fertilizer,or it could just be as simple as some of the market volatility that we’ve seen in the past that would create a lot of attention on Capitol Hill. The Fertilizer Institute works every day with Congress and the administration to be the voice for the fertilizer industry.
Who Powers TFI: Our Members Across the Supply Chain
People may have a perception about what The Fertilizer Institute is, but we truly do represent every segment of the fertilizer supply chain. We have manufacturers, we have importers, distributors, wholesalers, and of course ag retail. Every one of those voices are important and allows us to have a very strong position on Capitol Hill.
How TFI Works For You
It’s very difficult sometimes for a single company to speak to the White House or to Capitol Hill. But when we can unify all of the member companies of TFI, that allows us to speak as one voice, as a united industry, and has a much bigger impact on policymakers. We also love to listen to members, and this allows every company—no matter where they operate or what their business is—to have a voice, to provide examples and most importantly, share their own stories that we can then amplify on behalf of the industry to policymakers in Washington, D.C., and at state levels.
Our Top Priorities
TFI’s strategic plan was really based upon industry research that we did to really understand what are the business challenges and opportunities that fertilizer companies are experiencing. And from that, we came up with three core objectives. One, we want to promote a healthy environment, and the fertilizer industry has a great story to tell. Second, we want to see productive policy that gives member companies their license to operate. And third, we want to see the industry grow. When farmers succeed, the fertilizer companies also succeed.
The Value of TFI Membership
Each company has a unique approach to their business, and it’s because of the voice and story that they bring that we’ve been able to roll out incredibly important initiatives to the industry—from biostimulant certification to 4R nutrient stewardship to market intelligence and data for members to use to low carbon ammonia standards. And all of these are critical benefits that companies cannot live without and enhance the value that they bring to American agriculture.
Why Your Voice Matters to TFI
Most importantly, we need each and every one of your companies to be TFI members so that we understand your unique opportunities or your unique challenges to present that best voice to policymakers.
